Many members of UPGI sent messages of sympathy and condolence following the news of the death of Mr. V. Radhakrishnan. We were struck in particular by this memorial by Mohindra Kumar.
..........
On 7th June, last year, through Whatsapp, Radha shared with me a brilliant piece of his writings under caption God's Dialogue With Me (reproduced below). Some of you must have already read it on his blog; if not, please do read it here.
When the news of his unfortunate demise came, I immediately went back to the history of my Whatsapp messages with him to recollect God's Dialogue With Him. While reading it again, with tears in my eyes, I realised how shocking it is to accept that I will not be able to chat or call Radha again.
Like many others, I was too privileged to have worked closely with him. Yes, he was knowledgeable, thorough in numbers (a human calculator), an excellent coach, a brilliant guide. But, what impressed me the most was his sense of humour. Keeping your wits alive under any stressful situation or environment, is something I learnt from him.
I hereby extend my heartfelt condolences to Radha's family . May God give you strength to bear this loss.
Rest well Radha!
Shanti.
Mohindra Kumar
A reverie or dream in slumber,
I can’t now clearly remember!
A flash of blinding light,
Voice alone, no one in sight!
“What was your grumble
On way back from the temple?
I thought, l might erase,
The remorse writ on your face!”
The words were loud and clear,
For sure, meant for my ear!
I said ere I answer thee
Thou art who, do tell me!
I was stumped by the riposte:
“I’m God whom you daily pray!
As your soul I dwell in you,
Watching all you think or do!
Words, deeds of your choice
Seldom match my inner voice!”
Planning to lay threadbare
The whims of God unfair,
To give Him a piece of my mind
And my misgivings to unwind,
I felt I would rather respond
And started with a taunt:
“Being God, you ought to know
What caused my mental woe!
Yet to satisfy your ego,
In my own words, here I go!
You give a quicker, closer view
To those paying to see you!
People opting for a free view
Have to stand in a long queue!
Grade not devotees by money!
That’s the cause of my agony!
Spare a thought for my plea
Lest we lose our faith in thee!”
A moment I heard no sound!
I thought God was spellbound!
A sardonic laugh came my way
Blowing my imagination away!
Followed by words so precise
That brought me down to size:
“Air you breathe, but can’t see!
So am I, not visible to thee!
Yet in idols you shaped me!
Set in temples old and new!
Piece of exhibit you made me
Ignoring I do reside in you!
Tickets to see me you printed
Money, this way, you minted!
I gave humans the extra sense
To find a meaningful existence
You used it for many a ploy
Making me just a sacred toy!
Seek me not by chant of hymn
Nor offer me gold or dime!
Service of the humankind
Is serving me, put this in mind!
Offer solace to those in grief!Extend help to those in need!
May this be your life’s brief! In finding me you’ll succeed!”
Oh! my friends and fellowmen!
May this be our real sermon!
Place of worship our mind be!
Our religion be humanity!
From selfish goals may we move away
As we near the Judgement Day!
