Conditions of use

As a network of former international civil servants, we assume that members who add comments or engage in discussions will use a tone and etiquette similar to that used in professional communications. Inappropriate discussions of character or performance of individuals will be removed. We also suggest to avoid discussions of partisan politics, as they could be considered offensive by readers with different political views.

Comments

  1. An XUNICEF member recently complained over what he interprets as 'censorship' by one of our editors. The case concerns an article written and published much earlier in a publicly distributed journal. The article complained about decisions taken by UNICEF senior managers long ago during the period that the author was serving in W. Africa. In the article the author named individual colleagues who he believes bowed to political pressures by a major power. The editors jointly discussed the article and determined that it did not meet our standards as stated in the 'Conditions of use' on our website.

Our editors provide News and Views as a voluntary service to our colleagues. We encourage discussion of issues concerning children, UNICEF, the UN, and international service. On the other hand, we will not allow News and Views to become a platform for personal attacks, partisan politics, or rehashing old disputes between colleagues.

The decision to accept or reject an article lies solely with our editorial team. We will not publish articles containing accusations against particular colleagues. Nor will we publish discussion of partisan politics. Members are of course free to express criticism in other publications or in their own networks of acquaintances.
