The foundations of the post-1945 international order are rotting through neglect, complacency and sabotage, exacerbating the profound lack of trust between countries and a rise in violent conflicts. Hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians are dying as a result.

The Elders today express their grave concern at the worsening risk of atrocity crimes in Sudan as troops from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) encircle the North Darfuri capital of El Fasher. They note with alarm the reports of fierce fighting in and around the city between the RSF and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and its allies, prompting thousands of civilians to flee their homes and exacerbating the shortage of humanitarian supplies. The international community must take decisive action to avert a potential massacre by securing an immediate ceasefire and compelling the warring parties and their foreign backers to return to dialogue. Statement: The Elders today call for governments providing military assistance to Israel to review their approach, and set conditions for any future provision. They warn that Israel’s renewed military campaign in Gaza risks fuelling an escalating cycle of mass atrocities.

A very wise, balanced, and enlightened appeal by The Elders to President Biden to take proactive leadership to help end the conflict and bring a lasting and just peace between Israel & Palestine.  Kul
