XUNICEF News and Views

With a new team of editors being formed, we would like to streamline how members can submit their own articles for posting. It is easier than you think. Here is what you need to do.

Thank you to the many of you who have been in contact with the XUNICEF Blog over the last few weeks as some of us “new editors” (Joachim Theis, Rob Carr, Soji Adeniya and Tim Sutton) find our feet.

I want to thank you for the thoughtful contributions you’ve shared over the past month. From the burning humanitarian issues to your personal reflections on travel, art, and our reunions, the variety ensures there is something here for everyone.

This week we introduced some subtle changes to our blog. Do not worry - you can still browse all that good stuff, as you did before. Scroll down and check out the articles that readers have contributed. Remember, this is YOUR blog and it lives from your contributions.

As announced last week by Tom McDermott, we are discontinuing the preparation of our weekly "Editorial", which has mainly been a content listing of the articles published on the XUNICEF blog.  Instead, we simply invite you to browse through the listing of articles on our blog, in the same way as you do when reading an online news magazine or - for that matter - any other blog.

Sometimes, articles spark off some interesting comments and discussion. Don't miss any of this! We recommend you visit the blog throughout the week.  The last ten comments made by our readers appear in the right margin (if you visit the blog on a laptop screen). If you visit the blog on your smartphone, tap the 'hamburger' (the three small horizontal bars on the top right of your smartphone screen) and the last six comments will appear. Join the talk. For more tips, click the label 'Tip' at the end of this post, or wherever the label 'Tip' appears.

Sometimes you may want to look for more articles similar to that you have just been reading.  Check at the bottom of the article, before the comment line, whether the article contains a label. In the example below, the label  ' Lighter Stuff ' has been attached to the article.  Clicking on a label will present you with articles with a similar themes that you have been reading. It will provide you with articles carrying the same label. When viewed on a computer screen, the label might appear to the right of the article. In the following example, the label ' Climate ' has been attached to the article. Different lables exist for articles belonging to a common theme, such as ' Afghanistan ', ' Covid ', ' Colleagues ', or our regular contributors. This tip has the label ' Tip '. We often receive emails from our readers that only contain a link to a news-item on a website of a news magazine. It keeps us guessing what the sender wishes us to do. All our articles – we call them blogposts – contain: A title and the author or source Text, perhaps with a picture Sometimes a link to another website Therefore, if you wish to share with our readers a link to a news-item, please send an email to xunicef.news.views.submit@blogger.com , with copy to  xunicef.news.views@gmail.com   and: Put the Title of your post and your name into the subject line of the email, such as: My Article by My Name A few lines of text telling the readers why you think the link is worth visiting The link itself Remember that in case you have a paid subscription to a newsmagazine, other readers will not be able to open and read the news article. We regret not to be able to post submissions that only contain a link to a newspaper or other social media article - You need to add a few line...

  The editors are always happy to receive correspondence from our readers, no matter what. Feedback helps us to make XUNICEF News and Views more interesting, and helps us to include the type of articles that you like to see.  Most articles that you see on our blog have been written or shared with us by our readers. This means that you, the reader, can influence the mix of articles that show up on our website. If you find something missing, the best way to correct the situation is to send us an article that you thought was missing:  You can either write an article and even attach photographs, and we will post it.  If you wish to share a news-item that you found elsewhere, you can send us the link and add a few personal lines, telling us and the readers why you think the news-item is worth sharing.  Any questions about our blog? We  sometimes receive questions on how to access and use  XUNICEF News and Views. XUNICEF News and Views is a Blog , which is the same as any other website or your favorite news channel.  You access our blog by typing or clicking our homepage    https://xunicefnewsandviews.blogspot.com/ On a blog, new articles are posted almost every day. The latest articles sit near the top, and push previous article down the list. This is  how any other online news-magazine works: the latest news are always near the top. To view all latest articles, you have to scroll or swipe down the list. When you reached the end of the list, click 'More Posts' and the list will continue to display earlier posts.

Do you know what a hamburger is? It is a citizen of the town of Hamburg in Germany. It is also a symbol consisting of three horizontal bars, resembling a regular hamburger. It is the gateway to the menu of XUNICEF News and Views. Clicking on the hamburger opens the menu of our website, unless it is already there: Click on an item in the menu, such as 'Help' or ‘Bibliography’ to see more. When you are reading an article, and you wish to go back to home to see the list of all articles that have recently been published, click or tap on  XUNICEF News and Views in the blue header. This will take you back to home screen, where the last articles appear. Scroll or swipe down to see more articles. Did You Know …. …..when reading the comments from our readers, you can go back to the original article by clicking the green text at the top of the comment.
