Bangalore in Karnataka, South India was earlier known as the Garden City of India until the IT boom took over the city with its high rise glass and cement structures. Despite the pressures for urban space, Bangaloreans are proud that they have been able to preserve the historic Lalbagh Botanic Garden of 240 acres, established by Hyder Ali (who usurped the Mysore kingdom ) in 1760. The man-made lake and gardens in Lalbagh attract many species of birds making it popular location for the regular morning walkers and tourists.

 The Federation of Associations of Former International Civil Servants (FAFICS) held its 54th Council meeting at the United Nations Conference Centre, ESCAP Bangkok during 22-25 July 2024. A total of 65 member associations 35 participated. This was a hybrid meeting with both virtual and physical attendance.

This set of pictures from Dr Seenappa is selected from his vast albums on wildlife, flora and fauna of Karnataka. During his daily morning walks in Lalbagh, Bangalore’s beautiful park, his camera is his companion. Little is known about the “ water- birds” of the lake in the park. Over the years, Dr Seenappa seems to have mastered the skill of capturing not just the colours and natural beauty of the birds but also their moods and character.

I am glad to share my attempts to capture the tiger in this section from my albums, taken over the years in Kabini. As an avid wild life photographer, I am a frequent visitor to the Kabini sanctuary which is around 200 kilometers from Bangalore where I live, a drive of about three hours or so. Kabini was the hunting grounds for the erstwhile Maharajas and then the British. Since Independence it has been a protected forest for wild life. In 1974, it was accorded the status of a National Park and developed as a wild life sanctuary, especially for tigers.
