Not an Editorial

As announced last week by Tom McDermott, we are discontinuing the preparation of our weekly "Editorial", which has mainly been a content listing of the articles published on the XUNICEF blog.

Instead, we simply invite you to browse through the listing of articles on our blog, in the same way as you do when reading an online news magazine or - for that matter - any other blog.

A few reminders, on how to read and get most of the XUNICEF blog.

Visit often. The blog (https://xunicefnewsandviews.blogspot.com/) is updated whenever one of our readers submits a new article. This can be any day of the week. You do not have wait for the weekend to see new stuff. You also do not have to wait for the reminder-email from the editors.

How to visit the blog. You do not have to power up your computer to read the blog. You can read it any time on your tablet or smartphone. You may even want to include a shortcut-icon on your smartphone or tablet.

Here is how you do it:

On your Android phone, visit the blog's homepage https://xunicefnewsandviews.blogspot.com/ . Then tap the three-dot menu that show in the upper right corner. A menu will open. Scroll down and select "Add to home screen". You can rename the shortcut, then tap "Add" to place the icon on your smartphone screen.

On your iPhone home screen, open the blog, tap the Share button (square with an upward arrow), scroll down, and select Add to Home Screen. You can rename the shortcut, then tap "Add" to place it on your home screen.

Don't just consume - Engage! We receive many good ideas about what the blog should do. Such as that we should involve those that recently separated from UNICEF, there should be more discussion about life after UNICEF, there should be more about UN reform, or about Trump, or gardening, or mental health, or what to do with our lives. We agree. If you want more of something, be the first to submit an article of your interest. Here are the easy tested-and-tried instructions on how to go about it.

Comment - but don't be the Anonymous. An easy first step to engaging with the colleagues is to comment on a published article. Even former UNICEF staff love to receive a comment on their articles - whether praise or critique. When adding a comment on the blog, you can choose whether you comment from your google account (if you happen to have one), or as anonymous, or by entering your name:

We suggest that you enter your name and procede. It doesn't involve any fresh registration. Even if you remain confused on what to do, simply start your comment by identifying yourself - just as you did in any meeting while still working for UNICEF ("This is John Smith - I agree with the remarks of the previous ...and so on.")
