In response to News & Views’ bold plunge into “zero-minus-zero” budgeting, our poet in residence, Fouad has fled into voluntary exile in Toulouse—where he pondered fate and found time to rhyme.
UN80 hit us without cues,
None of us editors had any clues,
We all had a feeling of the blues.
In order not our position to abuse,
We needed to decide, to choose.
Did we want to print the news,
Or did we favour the views?
What were the glues
That bound us and made us fuse?
Our readership is made of many hues,
And they believe in many trues,
So what is it they value or use?
We must reduce our grades and dues,
From zero to minus , what is there to lose?
Fouad
