It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Dr. R.K. Rath, who departed peacefully on 3 June 2026 at his home in Bhubaneswar after a prolonged illness, at the age of 84. He is survived by his spouse, Mrs. Anjali Rath; his sons, Anupam and Amitabh; and Pavani, Anupam’s spouse. Dr. Rath began his distinguished career with the UNICEF India Country Office in New Delhi in 1980 in the Women’s Development Section and later moved to the UNICEF Hyderabad Office as State Programme Officer in 1987. He subsequently served as Chief of the Odisha Office from 1991 to 1993 and retired in 1998 as Head of the Community Development Section at the India Country Office.
Following his retirement, he resided with his family in Gurgaon before returning to his hometown of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in 2008. Dr. Rath will be remembered for his warmth, his steadfast commitment to the empowerment of women, and his lifelong advocacy for the rights of marginalized children. His achievements and contributions were recognized with the Official United Nations Commemorative Medal for Immunize Every Child. He also served as Chairperson of the UNICEF India Staff Association during 1995–1996, where he advocated for staff interests with dedication and integrity.
In his memory, the 12th day ritual will be held on 14th June 2026 at Mayfair Lagoon, 8-B, Jayadev Vihar, Bhubaneswar, to pay homage to Dr. Rath.
