Here is Gabi’s and my favorite bench. It was resting beside the Holderbach, not far from our home.
The bench stood on a rocky promontory overlooking a small clearing cradled by the forest. Below, in the valley, the Elderflower Stream bubbled on its unhurried journey toward the distant sea. It felt timeless, as though it had always belonged there.
Reaching it was not effortless. One had to arrive on foot, or perhaps by mountain bike.
Sadly, the old bench was not spared the passing of time and last year it was replaced by a new one, slightly more mundane. Still, the place itself remains untouched in spirit.
And since the old bench now lives only in memory, we offer, as a small consolation and just a little further away in our national park, another bench of more modern make that we also like.
