Happy Birthday, Happy 90th, Horst - Best Wishes for the Day and Many Happy Returns Plus a B'day Ditty: The Editors

Happy Birthday, dear Horst.

May your big day on February 17th be a wonderful celebration with your family and friends.

We thank you for your many contributions over the years to the UN, UNICEF and XUNICEF, and especially to  News & Views.

We could be with you, Isabel and all the family in beautiful St. Croix to help you celebrate the day.

The Editors

A Birthday Ditty from Fouad and Nadia

He is our "Der Alte" in the island of St. Croix *
And I really do not mean to be coy,
But his 90th.dob must be full of joy.
Since we cannot buy him a toy,
(He is definitely a grownup boy)
And there is no need for us to annoy
Him, we hope this DITTY he can enjoy.

(* Pronounced Saint Croy)

Dear Horst here is a toast
Of which we can all boast
Your friends from coast to coast
Real ones, none is a ghost.
For 2 XUNICEF reunions you were host,
It must be a record as the most,
Whose memories cannot be lost
As in our Blog we have a post.
Your spouse will cook a juicy roast,
While you listen to Wagner's Faust
PROSIT good friend, with many more to toast.

  1. Dear Horst
many happy returns of the day!! I am sure the birthday celebrations are going to be extraordinary, memorable!
I remember the time we first began communicating. It was while we were working on your article “Life after Unicef.” Since then we have become email-pals. I am remembering our many charming email exchanges…If you’re too quiet on the blog, I feel the need to check on you. And there you are- prompt with your response, always.

I am so glad I met you via email, dear Horst! Let’s keep writing on the blog, off the blog. One day, I will definitely visit your enchanting island as promised.
    Happy Birthday!!!

  4. I finally got to read the blog and discovered the nice birthday announcement and good wishes. Thank you very very much.
I really appreciate it and the greetings I got because of that.
It sure is an amazing birthday and my children went all out to celebrate and created a “family fun cruise” with me as the captain. It’s lots of fun and I look forward to the next days. On Wednesday we celebrate our oldest son’s 61st birthday.
Again, many thanks for celebrating with us.
    Kind regards,
    Horst.
