Nation of Compassion: A Poem by Richard Morgan

You will not see it advertised
It has long escaped from fashion
But the visa application’s free
For the Nation of Compassion

You should not expect a border check
Or a long stay in detention
Yet the right of shelter for us all
Is too threatening to mention

No boundaries, but the ones you draw
Transit camps without a station
There’s no bribe nor hate, decades-long wait
For a passport in this nation

For you will not see it televised
It’s an unseen revolution
Whose articles are made from faith
In a kindness constitution

So go whisper it most quietly
Start to building with your neighbour
And the boats by which you sail your lives
Will find refuge in this harbour.

  1. Nice poem evokes a positive spirit on a dark subject. Harkens to Lennon's Imagine. HH
