Congratulations to Prameet and to his proud parents.

Prameet's presentation was on infections of C. Diff ( Clostridioides difficile) and prevention and control of the disease. He is working on a vaccine to prevent the infection which we hope may be available soon. His work will hopefully prevent half a million such infections in North America alone every year. The bacterium also causes wound infections and has immense significance in developing countries.

C. Diff is a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea, colitis  and other symptoms. C. diff is most common in people who have recently taken antibiotics, but it can spread easily to others. Risk factors include: Being 65 or older, Recent stay at a hospital or nursing home, A weakened immune system, and previous infection with C. diff.
