An Ode to James Elder, UNICEF Spokesperson. : Fouad Kronfol

Thank you Jim for being where you are,
A true UNICEF trooper driving your car,
As you expose to the world this horrible so-called war,
While the door for reporting is only slightly ajar.

"The War Against Children" you said,
How many thousands are now dead?
If the massacres continue in the same thread
How much worse will it be ahead?

Bombs, disease and hunger are in the Gaza jar,
A whole generation will bear this inhuman scar,
Politicos in capitals with wording like to spar,
But the suffering children are in a location that is far.

On the forthcoming Eleventh of December,
The 77th anniversary of UNICEF we will remember,
Our Convention of Child Rights we will not surrender,
Thanks in large part to colleague James Elder.

Your UN colleagues and you have raised the bar,
International reporting has seen no such par,
It is clear that UNICEF now has a rising star,
Thank you Jim for being where you are.

  1. Here, here, Jim Elders makes all of us XUNICEFers truly proud as his principled reporting from ground zero, death zone of children, is in the best tradition of UNICEF. Bless you!

  2. Fouad,
    Your ode to Elder
    Is most apt and deserving
    On the 11th of December
Let's be proud of James Elder
And take a moment to remember
    The children left asunder
As we bless our colleagues for the
    committed services they render
    Sree

and services in Palestine they render.

  3. Thank you Sree..your own Ditty provides an equally wonderful "twin" to mine. I do hope that James Elder will eventually get to read these comments as they will surely encourage him to do more and better. He is a brave man indeed !

  4. Thanks Fouad. Indeed James Elder deserves our praise. His reporting from the scene is helping some more humanizing coverage.by mainstream media. The killing of a CNN field producer and his entire family led Jake Tapper to finally question Mark “spin doctor” Regev in an aggresive way. Ending with the refrain “Where are they supposed to go [to be safe”. At the same time the dramatic and as yet unproven rape allegations once again are meant to present Israelis as victims and Palestinians as monsters.
