Editor's Note: Dr. Mahendra Sheth is the husband of Sheela Sheth.

The author portrays a gripping story of abduction by a group of guerrillas in the midst of famine and war in Ethiopia in 1983. A compelling story of reflections, reactions and revelations that transformed the lives of many including the displaced.

The book is a recollection of the harrowing experiences of solitude during 49 days in captivity and the emotional ambivalence encompassing the journey through the Tigray terrain. It portrays a vivid picture of the changing faces of Ethiopia during three different regimes starting from the protagonist’s journey from Mumbai to Massawa.

It is a book revealing beautiful empty quarters charged with mystery of commitment and resilience creating a tapestry of human relationships. It demonstrates how the human mind can adapt to challenging circumstances when the situation is beyond your control.
