The following exchange began with Ted's comment on Kul's article "The Moral Clarity of WHO DG Dr. Tedros", which in turn was a comment on the Lancet article with that title.
From Ted Chaiban
Dear Kul,
I am glad that UNICEF has been very clear in its different interventions including at the Security Council. I attach below Cathy’s remarks at the Security Council on the 22nd of November.
UNICEF has also been the subject of attacks and a concerted campaign by the GoI as have others (OCHA, UN Women and the SG himself).
Kind regards.
Ted
The killing and maiming of children must stop immediately”

Yes, indeed Ted, I commend UNICEF's increasingly clearer and principled statements and proactive actions on behalf of children in Gaza. We are proud of ED Russell's and your leadership, and the courageous work of the UNICEF teams in Gaza, OPT and the MENA region under extremely difficult circumstances.
I was particularly happy with ED Russell's statement at the Security Council where she forthrightly condemned the violence perpetrated on children as "catastrophic, indiscriminate and disproportionate". She is also completely correct in strongly opposing the establishment of the so-called ‘safe zones’ as no place is safe in the Gaza Strip.
Like the SG and other principals of IASC, UNICEF is so right in asserting that "for children to survive, for humanitarian workers to stay and effectively deliver, humanitarian pauses are simply not enough. UNICEF is calling for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire to immediately put a stop to this carnage".
We have rarely seen the kind of arrogant, crude and ugly attacks on the SG, OCHA, UNRWA, WHO, UN Women, and even UNICEF as some representatives and spokespersons of the Israeli government have unleashed in recent weeks.
I feel proud that the UN & UNICEF have not been deterred or intimidated by such threats and slanders in carrying out their mandates to the best of their ability under the extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
Bless you.
