I was able to visit my home country, Sri Lanka after almost three years as a result of the pandemic restrictions and the recent economic collapse of the country. Thanks to assistance from India and other bilateral and multilateral donors, the country is slowly recovering. The natural beauty of the country and its friendly and resilient people continue to amaze me.
I hope you enjoy the few photos of the beautiful fauna and flora I captured on my visit to wild life parks, beaches and cultural events.
I would strongly encourage you to visit Sri Lanka, your foreign currency goes a long way to make your trip well affordable and enjoyable whilst helping the economy too.

| Kaffirs in action: Baila Dance |
This is a group of Sri Lankan Africans, Kaffirs as they are known. They were brought in by the Portuguese in the 1500’s from Mozambique. They have been granted citizenship and are integrated with the local community. Their kinky hair, rhythm and dance known as baila are distinguishing features.

ReplyDeleteI loved my time in Sri Lanka––felt nostalgic as I looked at the photos. I miss the streets of Colombo the night places.
It's lovely to see Anoja and Soma. I went to Bhutan at Anoja's invitation to work with her team. She was kind enough to take me with her to visit some historical places in Sri Lanka.
Soma and I were in ROSA together. Both are good friends.
All these happened so many years ago!

ReplyDeleteRohini, Thanks for sharing the photos- Guru and I enjoyed being in Srilanka a few years ago- apart from the flora and fauna, the beaches, the tea plantations we found the historic places especially the Buddhist places of worship very inspiring. Nice to see you, Luke, Anoja and Leo in your reunion picture- it is a lovely country and your pictures illustrate that.
