My dearest UNICEF friends
As of day one of my family’s ordeal, all of you rallied around a heart-warming campaign to end the grave injustice of an oppressive regime. Babak promptly communicated your most kind efforts. Your humanitarian endeavours became the crucially needed light that prevented us from being engulfed by the dark clouds created by a most monstrous regime. You strived to shame these greedy seekers of economic and security powers, whose sole objective has been to sustain and enhance their illegitimate and narrow self-interest at heavy cost in life and well-being for the overwhelming majority of the noble people of Iran.
Free from all political considerations you bravely spoke out not only against the inhuman behaviour of the so called Islamic Republic, but you did not shirk from criticising America and the Western powers for placing politics above humanitarian principles.

I cannot find words to describe adequately the positive impact your deep friendship and commitment to assist us made on all members of our family, giving us hope and protecting us from falling into despair. Our resilience, particularly that of Siamak, was strengthened. We were blessed with the hope that such affection from the extended UNICEF family, would definitely speed up our journey towards the goal of freedom. You were also, through your solid determination, able to mobilize other major stakeholder partners and enlist their collaboration to bring pressure, morally and otherwise, on decision makers on both sides.
And not to forget the very able way you empowered me to work with you for our life long cause to protect vulnerable children all over the globe from the catastrophic man-made disasters. Believe me, often feeling helpless to save my family from the heavy sufferings imposed unjustly upon us, I would surely have lost my mind and become insane had it not been for your sustained and continuous all round support.
I used some of the time I spent in Iran after my conditional release from prison to talk to our young compatriots from all walks of life.
I kept repeating the mantra that Hope should not be lost. And I repeated that the young generation can and will be the leaders in bringing about positive change. The whole world is now witnessing the mass movement for change led by young girls and followed by young boys and men.
With my fondest good wishes
Baquer
