MR - Regional Director Eastern and Southern Africa.

How old do you feel?
MR- Not 90, more like 75.
JM- High 70's.

MR- Croatia

Your best experience with UNICEF?
MR - Visiting a classroom with African children singing their welcome and showing me their written work in a notebook from UNICEF.
JM- Seeing an elderly campesino cry when clean water issued from a village standpipe provided with Unicef help.
Your biggest challenge when working for UNICEF?
MR- When country Reps agreed to accept the concept of participatory management and sharing resources with other country offices, thereby creating a dynamic team in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region.
JM - Proposing restructuring of Regional Office in Nairobi.
What is your biggest fear, in relation to the future of children?
MR - The world economy will draw children into worse poverty with uncertain futures.
JM- Cavalier manner that governments deal with children's needs.

MR - a truly equitable world where children everywhere would have the opportunity to experience a good life.
JM - UNICEF to resuscitate CRC and strongly remind governments of their commitments and confront those who fail to do so.
What is your one piece of advice you wish to give to the UNICEF Executive Director:
MR- Give major decisions at their level to Country Reps. Children live in villages.
JM- Greater organizational commitment to on-going continuity from one Rep to the next for country programmes.
