A Scandal Pops at UNOPS : Mukesh Kapila / DEVEX / NYTimes

UNOPS ED Grete Faremo with the SG

The stories of loose management and risk-taking at UNOPS have circulated for months, but finally hit the front pages of the NY Times only today. It is too early to see the full impacts or predict the consequences for other UN agencies, but one can easily conclude that the trust of donors, both governmental and private, will suffer. Further investigations, reviews, and efforts at financial scrutiny are bound to follow. The breakdown in trust is likely to be on both sides of the equation - both donor nations and recipient nations should rightly begin to ask, "Where did our money go?"

  1. A Ditty on UNOPS, AKA UN-OOPS !
Looks like the NYT got their scoops
Another UN body with newsworthy boo-boops.
Seems like senior managers tried some coups,
With super deals that would see no droops,
Met with some shady outside groups
Who sold them some big moola hoops,
But did not mention the downside loops.
Now the Agency has to eat crow and stoops
And must explain to staff and their troops
How this genius deal came to be a bunch of poops.

  2. Comments on the photo…
She…I am so angry about the XUNICEF comments which are beamed up there.
SG….I am reading them and they are funny.
She…but they have no respect for a UN senior official.
SG….smiling…..on the contrary ,I like their comments as they will help us find solutions for some of the major errors that were done.
