"Here I show an Austrian child thanking UNICEF for its aid to his friends and himself after the World War."
The stamp was issued on 14 May 1949 and commemorates the first year of UNICEF assistance to the children of Austria. It is believed to be the earliest/first ever postage stamp dedicated to UNICEF.
This First Day Cover (FDC) with the Austrian stamp has a Vienna postmark dated 14 May 1949. The cachet shows a girl and a boy in front of a UN emblem with an inscription of; "Austrian children say many thanks to UNICEF".
Another FCD of the Austrian stamp with a different cachet showing a schoolboy standing on a map of Austria and a globe with a wreath depicting the UN in front of a blackboard on which is written "Many Thanks".
The same bird from the stamp is flying toward the boy. The postmark is faint but it is dated 14 May 1949 and comes from Innsbruck.
Amazing and beautiful
