I wrote the following article as a tribute to a wonderful female artist, Blanche Ellul Sullivan, my aunt. The article originally appeared in the Christmas 2023 edition of Treasures of Malta.
When I was invited to write this article about my unsung heroine, I was overjoyed as it was a long-awaited opportunity to give Blanche and her art the recognition she deserved.

ReplyDeleteBest.
Thanks Fouad. Blanche was my favorite aunt and godmother. She wss my mentor and taught me so much about art and creativity. And she taught me how to paint. I am overjoyed to give her the long-deserved exposure as an artist and a unique woman.
DeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks 🙏
DeleteHow fortunate you are to have had a woman like Blanche in your life, Margherita. She sounds wonderful and her diverse talents are amazing. Thank you for sharing this booklet.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! She was and remains my guiding light.
DeleteMargherita, I really enjoyed reading your beautifully written account of Blanche as aunt and godmother artist. Accompanied by some of her truly compelling paintings, your insightful desciption becomes even more meaningful. I especially love the screen of the woman and deer! How true that if women artists had been recognized by the male establishment as worthy of recognition, she would have figured prominently in those circles then and now.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary. Blanche is certainly getting the recognition she deserves now. She must be feeling vindicated at last..
