The big news this week was the how millions watched the total solar eclipse in North America with some traveling distances to locations in the direct path of the sun.

Eid Mubarak   In another part of the world, the children in Gaza had to make do with meager food supplies while observing Eid Al Fitr amidst the rubble and destruction bereft of their homes and loved ones.

Adele Khodr  The continued blockade of humanitarian supplies and restricted access of UNWRA staff has escalated the malnutrition of children. Gaza is a moral issue, says Adele Khodr, Regional Director MENARO and a test for our humanity and ability to save children’s lives, calling for ceasefire and access to humanitarian services.

Gaza  Not much has changed in Gaza. The recent resolution of the UN Human Rights Council demanding accountability by Israel joined the list of resolutions with little or no impact on the situation.

Worrisome development  Still in Gaza,  a UNICEF vehicle waiting to enter northern Gaza was hit by live ammunition.  Listen to Tess Ingram's interview on Al Jazeera and for the UN News

The 30th anniversary of the Rwanda genocide moved John Gilmartin to pay tribute to  Tanny Noorlander and a National Officer from Rwanda.

Earthquake  Whereas, on a lighter note, the earthquake in New Jersey prompted the comment “you are making the earth to shake” during a presentation by Save the Children in the Security Council

Arriving Rome on Wed and getting on to  airport bus I tripped and fell carrying our suitcase on board and scratched my knees!  Our most satisfying event that evening was a very nice dinner at our hotel with Gianni. We had not seen each other physically for years and spent some quality time chatting about all sorts of things, including the gratifying work he is doing practicing his profession again..a re-born Doc !
Hope all is well. "
