From the Editors - 24 to 31 March 2024

We are still celebrating our sixth anniversary
March 20, 2018 to March 20, 2024

Some of our contributors continued to send us sixth anniversary articles:
Paula Claycomb revisits and gives us an update on the theme of one of her early contributions: The USA Culture of Love for Guns Continues Apace.

Sree Gururaja wonders what it is like to be an editor?

Fouad Kronfol cannot believe that six years have passed since the first newsletter has been sent out.

Myra Rudin is well known to many of us for her travel photos. This week she shares a documentary of people taking to the street. She says that "although their voices do not always lead to change, demonstrating against wrongs and misdeeds has given people the power to show their disagreement with those in charge".

Richard Morgan shares a very personal song: "One Day".

From his days in Albania, Ken Gibbs remembers that Carps are Crap

Ramesh Shrestha rings the 21st Century Alarm Bells

Leo Goulet demonstrates that he and the Holi celebrations (in Kathmandu) are doing well.

Nuzhat Shahzadi writes about her search for God.

Missing You - Michiru Tamanai, RIP

Cigna: Souleymane Diabate shares with us his Report on the Consultative meeting between UNICEF and Cigna International 18-21 March 2024 Budapest

The News of the week have been the adoption of the Security Council Resolution 2728 demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. Here is the full text, and here is some more context on the vote. There are also several more article on the situation in Gaza.

On the UN in general, Niloufar wonders whether - finally - the next UN SG will be a women? Robert Cohen is concerned about the 758 cases of sexual exploitation and abuse reported in the UN, in 2023.

I personally found much food for thought in the article on the shrinking civic space in many countries, shared by Janet Nelson. If most of us can no longer influence what UN organizations are doing, we still can influence the political environment in the countries we live. Or not?

Finally, we all wish you a Happy Easter and some days of hope and rest!
Detlef Palm, editor of the week.
