What is your name and your last assignment with UNICEF?
Sikander Khan, Principal Advisor, PFP
How old do you feel?
Seasoned and increasingly impatient and bored of listening, on repeat, to post facto story telling of violations of rights!
Where do you live?
Spain
What book are you currently reading?
A Peace to End All Peace (second time to refresh my memory)
El hablador by Mario Vergas Llosa (in English “The story tellers”!
If you could travel without restrictions, where would you go?
Afghanistan
Your best experience with UNICEF?
Working alongside deeply committed and compassionate people whose kindness endures beyond the work
Your biggest challenge when working for UNICEF?
Maintaining composure in the face of inefficiency and hypocrisy!
What is your biggest fear for the future of children? What is your greatest hope?
Fear: That impunity becomes normalized and children come to see injustice as inevitable, even a path to success
Hope: That we act sooner, faster, and prevent harm not just document it
What is one piece of advice you would give to the UNICEF Executive Director?
Listen carefully, especially to uncomfortable truths and act faster, because the cost of delay is measured in children’s lives and human dignity.
Do you have any suggestions to improve XUNICEF - content, format, ideas, etc..?
Can only thank the team for such hard work!
