UPDATE: Re-Launching 10 Questions by Rob Carr

Dear colleagues:

UPDATE :  At the end of March we sent out an email request to XUNICEF members to share your response to 10 QUESTIONS.

So far 14 XUNICEF members have responded and in total we have 40 from the previous round and this current one and you can see them all here.

We continue to release new responses every few days and look forward to your inputs.  It has been fun to see the faces and hear the stories of our colleagues.

REMINDER:  If you did not catch the email from XUNICEF about how to respond, below are simple instructions:

1. Go back to email and reply -  or - you can start a new email afresh - answer below the questions in the e-mail or simply start a fresh email and paste in the 10 questions below. Don't add any fancy font or links.

2. Attach or paste in a photo. Photo should not exceed 1 MB

3. Make sure you address the email TO these 2 addresses only (paste these in your email as TO: don't click - just copy and paste from here to your email)

This will automatically submit it to XUNICEF BLOGGER as a draft (only the editors can see this draft) - the editors will review these, tidy up any formatting, and post a few each week.

  1. It appears that most respondents to the "10 Questions" stating their last posts were in the category "Representative", "Director," "Chief of...." and other high level assignments. Perhaps other xmembers (the majority?) feel a bit intimidated to reply having to mention "Clerk", "Admin Asst" or "Custodian".? Maybe the 10 questions themselves are a bit geared to those who held higher positions? What about a more basic questions, which relates to all, like "What hobby did you take up upon retirement"? Just an observation.

  4. Editor here - your concern is well noted. This is an open forum for all XUNICEF staff - so everyone should feel free to share no matter what post you occupied. I do agree that XUNICEF landscape is dominated by many who had senior positions - we are thinking how to remedy this and broaden the circle. In fact among the over 1000 members of XUNICEF only about 7 or 8 of the same people who contribute articles regularly. We have also made submitting articles easier by making it as simple as sending an e-mail. All jobs in UNICEF matter. Imagine being in an office with no drivers or travel assistants or cleaners - the office would collapse in less than a week. No work would get done. Imagine the same office with no Rep for 4 or 5 months or no Regional Director - the office would still move forward and work would get done. Also, I think we all have views on our hopes and fears for children - it is not unique to former Reps or Regional Directors. Support staff are the bedrock of UNICEF - we would love to hear the views of all staff and especially those that made sure our programs moved forward - the bank account works, the cars have fuel, and the conference room is booked.

  5. Yes, Rob Carr, you are right -- all jobs matter. However, the comment/question I believe did not refer to submission of articles. It specifically mentioned the "10 questions" which I agree, don't seem relevant to everyone i.e. "What was the last book you read"? Perhaps many members do not have access to many books, or even a decent library? Maybe a look at the 10 questions again for a bit more relevance to all members? Thanks.

    1. Thanks - that is will understood. Will have a look - we will have a new series challenge with less questions and more fun for everyone. Promise.

    2. @Anonymous: Readers who don’t read books can tell us what they read or watch on TV. Or tell us that they have read it all, or that they are done with reading. Wouldn't this be interesting?

And why don’t YOU suggest different questions or tell us what you think is of relevance to all members, rather than asking editors to do it for you?
