Welcome to the incoming Editorial Group. You have a hard act to follow because the - just about retired Editors - have universally been helpful. Looking at what you have posted already encourages me - and I hope others - to submit articles.
My role in XUNICEF seems to have been one of bringing a bit of light relief to the blog. I'm wondering who will take over, as I am slowing down ? I'll be watching to see who takes up the baton. . . .because UNICEF has always been a rich vein of the utterly ridiculous. More examples of AI (Absolute Idiots) needed. . . . .

I agree, both with Detlef and with Ken, Including a wider group could be interesting, especially since many of us worked in several organizations. Colleagues from NatComs, for example, and those who moved to NGOs, should definitely participate.

Yesterday
Imagine. I, in my ignorance, thought the cartoon was a jibe at UNICEF pomposity.

We had problems in the early '80s when I wanted the Kenya Country Office to be recognized as having its own Representative separately from ESARO also in Nairobi with an accredited Regional Director. The government finally agreed. Now three? Maybe that 1980s negotiation paved the way for this one. Who knew? Mary

What a lovely bouquet you have captured ! It deserves a Ditty .
Yes, we should think of Spring
As more such flowers it will bring.
But Father Winter appears to cling
To more cold with no ending
And layers of snow and icing
As our frozen fingers we wring.
But our heavy coats we will fling,
When April’s warmth will ring,
Listen to it aloud with such a ding,
There is no more beautiful a thing,
As a bud that is changing,
Into a flower with zing !,
Yes, we should think of Spring
As more such flowers it will bring.

It is very sad and frustrating to read these reports. It seems that the UN can't do enough, the US cuts assistance and other governments ae busy with other issues.

I just published this article/announcement on the site, I have never experienced anything that was easier. I contacted the editors, Detlef replied with instructions, next thing I know the post was done. I encourage everyone to go ahead and write, blog, vent, rant or whatever they feel will be useful to us. Easy peasy!!!

I would suggest that one of the "REDACTIONS" is Vietnam. It will not win me the case of beer, but perhaps it could set the ball rolling.

How about a competition of how many "REDACTIONS" XUNICEF readers could get right? I would like to offer the winner a case of beer.

Concise and to the point.
Assuming that there is an intake of XUNICEF staffers made redundant by the current reorganisation, I would be interested in their reaction to their situation, now that they are free of the restrictions of the 13th Floor – and perhaps free of some of the overblown egos that UNICEF has/had a habit of spawning.
If XUNICEF survives – which I sincerely hope it does – I would like to write about a multi-agency project that became wildly successful – and why it should have been so. Stretch our hands across to embrace others in the UN system and NGOs/PVOs and, heaven help me, even (or especially) the private sector – all for the benefit of children ? Now, there’s a thought !

In follow up to the meeting, I like to point out that a ‘community’ becomes a community when there is some common interest. For example, when I want to play chess, I would join a chess club (or an online chess site) and not the XUNICEF club. The XUNICEF ‘community’ needs to identify its common interest. In my view, the ‘common interest’ arises from our experiences of having lived in and experienced foreign countries and cultures, worked in development or relief, have a view about the UN, have traveled, and – most likely – not have neighbors with whom we can talk about this all.
