"One of the best minds of UNICEF who strongly believed in reconciling protection of the most vulnerable and economic growth. His Adjustment with a Human Face trained generations of economists and his vocation for teaching finally materialized in his career as a professor at the University of Florence, where he started a course on development economics in developing countries.
Having a chat with him has always been a moment of personal and professional enrichment! Even when he realized that his health was not good, he did not stop thinking about new study projects, because he knew that his mind was his life.
It is a great honor for me to have met you and to have been considered your friend.
Goodbye ANDREA! R.I.P."

Bassani Bilge: Very sad to hear Andrea's passing. He was a good friend and like brother to me since we shared an office at Innocenti for a year. His life was worth living. Contributed so much for the well being of children and human family. May he rest in Peace.
ReplyDeleteSad news indeed! You have done a great work. Your contribution in adjustment with human face was a breakthrough in development support to Africa. Will miss you Andrea

I too am very sad to know about Andrea’s passing. A knew him and his family well in the 80’s at Hq when he was working with Dr Jolly . We both lived in the same building in Roosevelt Island. I met him much later in Florence to ask for his advice on Innocentti. A wonderful person, professional ,and a friend. May he rest in eternal peace
ReplyDeleteI also would like to add my condolences to the Family of the late Andrea Cornia. While we did not work together, we were colleagues in the programme function and had regular and frequent exchanges on many subjects related to Africa. His work together with Francis Stewart on adjustment issues was largely done in connexion with Ghana, where Denis Cailleux was the Rep. I respected his professionalism, but above all his pleasant personality and sense of humour. Rest in Peace, Andrea !
