Nearly 75% of Climate Experts Blame ‘Lack of Political Will’ for High Chance of Future Warming: Cristen Hemingway Jaynes / Eco Watch

Confirmation of what I understand about the climate crisis. They are talking about outcomes in this century. The article says Guardian polled IPCC climate scientists with almost half responding.

The reasons for the failure to adequately tackle the climate crisis were clear to the experts. Nearly three-quarters said not having the political fortitude was at the forefront, while 60 percent cited corporate interests like those of the fossil fuel industry.

The poll revealed that younger scientists — 52 percent of those under 50 — expected the planet’s temperatures to rise to at least three degrees Celsius.

"Current policies have the world on course to warm approximately 2.7 degrees Celsius."
“Sometimes it is almost impossible not to feel hopeless and broken,” said climate scientist Ruth Cerezo-Mota, as The Guardian reported. “After all the flooding, fires, and droughts of the last three years worldwide, all related to climate change, and after the fury of Hurricane Otis in Mexico, my country, I really thought governments were ready to listen to the science, to act in the people’s best interest.”

Thanks Paula for the link to the article on likely increase in temperature as global warming appear to be out of control. The warning by the scientists dates back since 1950s but our consumer society and the economy based on consumerism continued to ignore the warning. Whatever solutions are being tried as alternate source of energy based on renewable source is too little too late.
ReplyDeleteDuring the COVID lockdown people everywhere adjusted with reduced consumption and less work. It is possible to adjust our lifestyle with less energy but it will not be acceptable. The energy consumption is actually on the rise.
The bottom line is we do not have an acceptable solution. It is likely that as a result of rising temperature there are likely serious environmental impact that could cause serious health impact on humans and other animals leading to unforeseen consequences.
Let us hope that humans will somehow adjust and survive!
Cheers…
