Thomas Haettenschwiller chatted with us this week. Thomas talked to us about his recent retirement, which followed a long career that included the US Air Force, Peace Corps, Africare, UNICEF, and IAEA. We then chatted about his family, his home improvement, projects, and his trips around scenic spots in Europe in the family's camper van. According to Thomas, UNICEF has the attention span of a 4 year old. Want to hear more? Click here.
Did you miss one of our earlier chats? You can find the full collection here. Would you like to chat with us - or record you own chat with an old colleague? Let us know.
We shared the shock, grief, and anger expressed by many with the news of the murder of young children and their teachers in Texas. As the Executive Director asked in her statement on behalf of UNICEF, ".....young life after young life: how many more children will die before government leaders act to keep children and their schools safe? Because until they do, these horrors will continue.”
We had fewer articles than usual this week, because fewer members sent us draft articles for posting. But we still do have a lot of original content in the form of stories, opinions, or photographs sent in by our members, and we are sure that you come across articles that you find entertaining or thought provoking.
Keep in mind that the XUNICEF News and Views website, also known as the XUNICEF blog is a platform for former and active staff members to share their thoughts or personal experience with those who had career paths similar to yours. Like you, our members traveled widely, believe that the best interest of children should top everything else, and have a view on global matters that you do not easily find in your average neighborhood. Many former staff members have reconnected with colleagues through the XUNICEF network, or found new colleagues with similar interests.
If you worry about global developments, have a view on UNICEF's contribution to a better world, or just want to share some touching experiences, the XUNICEF blog is the place to meet.
If you found an inspiring (or controversial) news-magazine article or opinion piece elsewhere, you may send it to us for sharing with the group - but make sure to add a few sentences of your own about why you thought the article was worth sharing.
Next to our Feature Article, the 10 Questions, the Quick Chat and our regular columnists, we wish to point our to a new publication by Jon Rhode: Ten Lessons from a Career in Global Health. Jon Rohde has been an architect of the visionary child survival and development revolution in the 1980s and 90s that saved the lives of millions of children.

The XUNICEF network is the platform where former and active colleagues come together and share their news and opinions with each other. Members may agree - or disagree - on many issues, but the only way to find out is if you share with us what matters to you.
