This week XUNICEF reached the 1.1 MILLION for number of hits. We continue to average around 1000 hits per day.
This is all due to YOU - those of you take a moment to click and read a story, to comment, and those who write a story and share: about international development, about changes in UNICEF, about an old work memory, about your latest poem, about your latest trip, about your new hobby, or about a dear colleague who has passed away. Without YOUR content we DO NOT exist.
And for those who have an urge to share a story - it is as easy as sending an e-mail. See here the simple steps. Take a few moments and share your thoughts - the editorial team stands ready to support you.
Thanks for your stories and your support.
Congratulations to all of us 🙌
ReplyDeleteFor we are jolly good fellows, and so say all of us. . . . .
DeleteHow do you spell 'narcissism' ?
DeleteRegarding narcissism comment - Why make snarky anonymous comments? We were all colleagues - no one needs a good PER or reference letter these days ? Make a constructive comment?
ReplyDeleteBetter yet - compose an article on what you are up to - or ideas on how to improve this site?
DeleteGreetings all, I agree w/Rob's riposte to the Anonymous snarky narcissism remark. If you aren't willing to ID yourself, why impose your views? Perhaps anonymous remarks should be discontinued? On the 1.1 million stat: is that total number of hits since XUnicef began... and when did XUnicef begin? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteImpressive. Hits is one measurement of engagement. Do you have stats on the others. Would be interesting to see how many of those hits are from unique users. How many post comments or engage in dialogue. I personally find the blog a sort of one way broadcast. And that is reflected in the 1 million hits a good mark but passive. Occasionally there is an interaction between several people. More of that is needed. At least I look out of curiosity. But I do not expect to find much useful content, which would be news about people that I knew. I can find articles about security council reform elsewhere. And curating news depends upon the views of the curator. Any way I admire the energy involved but would appreciate more direction. As the saying goes,”if you don’t know where you are going then you never can get lost”. By the way the ten questions is a useful tool to seek our engagement. It needs some tweaking but that isbtge right direction.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for telling us about the high number of hits. No need to get upset about the reference to “narcissism”. If that what one ours felt that what he/she has expressed. And I hope it is not pointed towards a particular person. I also feel that the blog publishes firsthand accounts as well as links etc that helps spread the reader’s interest span. Being a blog, it is doesn’t provide space to interact except to comment and counter comment, and it is tough to go back to a topic after two or three newer blogs have overlaid the one of interest. So, one searches and searches and the system records as many hits!!!
ReplyDeleteDear Ellen, just to set the record straight: XUNICEF is the brand name of our grouping/network. It started in 2008 in Montreal when the Reunion decided on a new @cronym to repl@ce WAWIG which was the original acronym (we are worth it group) when the retiree reunions started in 1990.. Our Blog , XUNICEF news and views ,started in 2018 and is now continuing with a new group of Editors as of March this year. Hope this clarifies things. Since the beginning of the Blog we the original editors have been unhappy about the “anonymous” comments but have not found a solution. In any case your remarks are pertinent and we hope that other XUNICEF commenters will not use this in the future especially for snarky remarks. We want the Bllog to be a congenial platform for exchanges among our former unicef colleagues.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your contribution to this effort.
Dear Moncef, just a word to thank you for the comments on the Blog..As far as I can remember this may have been the only comment or article we received from you since the Blog started. Answering the 10 questions would be a nice way to start your involvement. Yes there are technical and format issues that need attention. Both the original editors and the current team have been trying to find solutions to improve it. Your concerns are shared by others so the ideal would be if you joined the volunteer editors team and helped with improving the publication .At minimum you can continue to send comments or articles on subjects that an elicit exchanges among our network. Salamats.
ReplyDelete@Moncef and everyone. In the sidebar of the blog, there is a field called ‘search colleagues’. Begin typing a name, and you’ll find up to 320 names. Clicking a name will show all articles that the person contributed. Try your own name. If you don’t find your name, you have not yet contributed an article. If you want people to find you, contribute at least one article (and why not the 10 questions).
ReplyDeleteIf you don’t see a sidebar, for example when looking at the phone right now, click the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner of the blue blog and the sidebar will appear.
I would invite any XUNICEFers who have ideas to improve the blog to please share them to the editorial group at xunicef.news.views@gmail.com Or if you want some new engaging content write an article - about what you are doing these days, an article about how to improve the blog, about your best or worst memory of UNICEF, on world events - the sky is the limit and it is as easy as sending an e-mail - see how here: https://xunicefnewsandviews.blogspot.com/2026/02/would-you-like-to-submit-article-for.html
