Dear All :

I am deeply saddened to inform you that a very senior member of UPGI, Dr. Sindhu Phadke passed away on 8th May at her residence in Pune. She would have turned 99 this October.

Born in Nashik, and a graduate from Fergusson College she obtained her Master's from the Baroda School of Socal Work. With a scholarship from the Principality of Phaltan, Satara she went to Berkeley USA, to complete her PhD. On return to India she worked at the Delhi School of Social Work and then moved to UNICEF where she retired as a Zone Representative from the then East India Office (EIO) responsible for UNICEF programmes in West Bengal, all seven North Eastern States, Sikkim and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Among many accomplishments she will be remembered for producing for the first time "State of Women and Children" reports for all the states in the Eastern Zone.

She played the violin, loved painting and brought a lot of cheer to all her colleagues and staff with her home made delicacies.
