Missing You - Hatim George by Mary Sidawi

Mr. Hatim George passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 in Amman, Jordan after a life dedicated to humanitarian work and the service of children through his long career at UNICEF.
His funeral will be held on May 3rd at the Greek Melkite Catholic Church in Amman. Condolences can also be sent via email to: HatemFamilyAmman@gmail.com or by phone to the numbers shown on the announcement below.

Better known as "Abu George", Hatim served as a planning officer in UNICEF Baghdad and was the Officer-in- Charge during the 2003 evacuation of international staff. He later worked as the Chief of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PM&E) at the UNICEF Iraq Support Centre in Amman, Jordan. He went on to international assignments: as Programme Coordinator in Libya, and as a consultant in social policy and planning in South Sudan and Oman.

  1. Rest in peace Abu George. I have great respect for those national officers who are handed the keys and are dubbed OIC as Internationals are whisked away to safety. We have seen it happen too many times to count I have seen it - it is one of the most heart-wrenching and disturbing things. Thanks for your dedication Abu George - and to all nationals that hold the fort - endangering their own lives more than we can ever understand.
