In Memoriam - Devinder Chopra - from the UNICEF Pensioners Group India

We regret to inform you that Mr. Dev Chopra expired on 22 May 2026 at Gurgaon after brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Ms. Sudesh Chopra and daughter Ms. Maya. May his soul find peace at the Lord’s feet.

Mr. Chopra’s first assignment with UNICEF was in the late sixties as part of the Peace Corps volunteer handling the Food Program. S Dasguptaji and Gerry Pinto were his colleagues there. He later took over as the Chief of Christian Children’s Fund in New Delhi, an agency supporting sponsorship programs for children in many states. He then came back to UNICEF to work with Dr William J Cousins and others in the Urban Development Section. He moved on as the Zone Representative of South East India Office at Hyderabad in 1983 and in 1990 took up an assignment in Sa’ana, Yemen as the Country Representative and retired from there in the mid 90s. Since then he has been living in Gurgaon.

A thorough professional combined with his leadership and people skills, he was a highly appreciated leader and colleague. His ability to build strong relationships and to sustain them was key to his success. Chopra was a regular at all staff and retirees' meetings and always shared his frank views contributing in the discussions. Most of us met him last at our retirees meeting at Hyderabad in 2022.

All those who have worked with him and who know him will miss him dearly.

May his soul find peace at the Lord’s feet.

Members who wish to send condolences may DIRECTLY send to his grandson, Mr Mahir Dittia
