OBSERVING THE OBSERVERS (by Myra Rudin)

Similar to peeking in windows, another guilty pleasure in which I find myself, is that of “observing” other visitors while in museums, exhibits or at a popular venue where people gather to communicate with art or explore a popular site.

Watching visitors’ reactions to a painting, object, or even a building can be rather entertaining; some people ponder, or smile; others look confused, while others feel romance.... The emotions are really quite varied....

It frequently appears that viewers react similarly to the object they are looking at---so next time you drop by a museum, exhibit, etc., keep an eye on the visitors as well as the items or scene you came to see – it’s free for the price of admission....(and maybe they are watching you)......

  1. Thanks for sharing - one of the most fun things about museums for me is people watching. I would probably relish a job as a museum guard just to watch people all day - but I would likely not enforce all the rules.
