Editors at XUNICEF are our strategic masterminds, custodians of wisdom, and occasional herders of digital cats. Their noble task is to ensure the optimal deployment of the talents, assets and deeply ingrained habits of former staff, in line with best-practice journalistic management, aspirational goals, loosely defined priorities and a shared commitment to producing News & Views about children, development, humanitarian action and… well, whatever else comes up.

Over the last eight years, our operating environment has evolved at breathtaking speed. It is now more dynamic, more complex and regularly surprising, often to us. As our readership and contributor base has spread across the globe, we have grown to over 1,000 members in more than 100 countries, including several we are fairly sure were invented after we retired.

To implement our Strategic Plan, meet its targets, expand its coverage and respond to the ever-rising expectations of our members, we are urgently seeking qualified, diverse and not entirely exhausted talent to help reinforce the legendary Ties That Bond Us. If you are passionate about making a difference and still possess the motor skills required to edit text online, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Category Type: Anyone with any connection whatsoever to XUNICEF and its global mandate. No age limit, no upper boundary, no awkward questions.

Workload: One weekly virtual meeting, capped at one hour by policy and occasionally by battery life. Plus a rotating assignment as Editor of the Week, during which you briefly remember what deadlines feel like.

Position Level: E5–E6. These are hypothetical levels of responsibility that have survived multiple restructurings and now exist mainly as a conversation starter.

Entitlements: None, except exposure, interaction and the reassuring knowledge that others also miss per diems.

Salary: Any grade you like, carefully adjusted for your current duty station and cost of living. In practical terms, this means nostalgia.

Duty Station: Wherever you are right now. Den, living room, bedroom, balcony, or that chair by the window where you reflect on past missions.
