Oman is preparing to celebrate 55 years of cooperation with UNICEF : Shared by Tom McDermott

Dear Readers

In 2026 UNICEF Oman plans to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of UNICEF's work in Oman.  The Representative, Sumaira Chowdhury, has appealed for contributions by retirees who have worked in Oman over the years, either as staff posted there or visiting staff and consultants.

Please contribute any photos or videos you may have.  Also any stories or memories you may have of our work in Oman.

Thanks.  Tom

From the Representative

I’m writing to you to request a few minutes of your time to support us with a special campaign we hope to launch next year. 2026 marks a remarkable milestone, namely 55 years of UNICEF’s presence in Oman.

We want to commemorate this anniversary by highlighting all the impactful work the office has done over the years; while planning is still under way, we are thinking of:
  • Creating a desk calendar with photos and history of the office, as well as various social media assets;
  • Hosting a series of events, including possibly a public exhibition of old photos and stories
  • Adapting and amplifying the global UNICEF “I am...” campaign, ideally featuring current and previous partners, friends and staff.
You have been instrumental in this milestone as we know how you have worked hand in hand with colleagues and the Government of Oman to make a difference for every child. As such, we are requesting you to kindly share:
  •  A short (1 minute) video sharing your achievements, experiences and memories vis-à-vis your time in Oman (NB can be in Arabic).
  • Photos (and videos) from your time with UNICEF Oman, including photos of children if you have them. (While there are many on WeShare, we are looking to broaden the collection).
  • Any written text (personal stories, testimonials or quotes that we could use on social media.
Your voice, memories, and spirit will make this milestone truly meaningful. We hope the video will be easy to shoot though we recognise that it may be a laborious task to dig through your archives for old photos, but your contributions have been an invaluable part of this journey, and we want to be sure to highlight that and feature them as part of showcasing the collective impact of our UNICEF Oman family.

Please reach out to Sara (sallamki@unicef.org) if you have any questions or to share your contributions in due course – could we say within a month, or by the end of the year in any case?

Thanks in advance for your consideration,
Sumaira
