Joint Statement by the Emergency Conference on Palestine

Statement shared by Niloufar Pourzand

Editor's Note: The Hague Group is a coalition of nations formed to uphold international law and hold Israel accountable for its actions in Palestine.  They convened an emergency conference in Bogotá, Colombia, to address what they perceive as Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians and the failure of existing international institutions to hold those responsible accountable. The conference aimed to move beyond condemnations and adopt concrete measures to address the situation.

Approximately 30 countries participated in the July 2025 Emergency Conference on Palestine held in Bogotá, Colombia, according to WILPF. The conference, jointly convened by Colombia and South Africa as an initiative of the Hague Group, aimed to address the situation in Palestine and discuss ways to enforce international law.

The final statement of the conference includes:Ending Impunity and Upholding International Law: All 30 participating nations unanimously agreed on
* the necessity of ending impunity and enforcing international law without bias.
* a call for Immediate Ceasefire:
* Steps by 12 Nations: Twelve states (Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Indonesia, Iraq, Libya, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua, Oman, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and South Africa) committed to implementing six measures through their domestic systems to address complicity with Israel's actions in Palestine.
* Deadline for Other Nations: A deadline of September 20, 2025, aligning with the 80th UN General Assembly and a previous UN resolution, was set for other states to join in implementing the measures.
* Focus on State Responsibility

In essence, the statement represents a coordinated effort by several nations to pressure Israel through diplomatic and legal means, advocating for a ceasefire and emphasizing the enforcement of international law in the context of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
