American Members of XUNICEF - Join me and Results.org in writing to Congress : Kul Gautam

Dear American colleagues,

In the face of the decimation of the US foreign aid programs by the Trump administration, many of us feel helpless and despondent. But there are still some things that American citizens can do.

Please see the following message from RESULTS.org (of which I am the current Board Chair): https://results.org/blog/fy26-appropriations-tell-congress-to-fund-the-fight-against-global-poverty

In the otherwise discouraging scenario of most Republican legislators falling in line with whatever the Trump White House and OMB want, it is encouraging to see a few courageous R Senators and Congressmen signing these FY26 Dear Colleague Letters.

Scan down to FY26 Dear Colleague Letters to find sign-on letters in the House and Senate working to protect funding for PEPFAR, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, Maternal and Child Health, GAVI, and more.

Please consider writing to your respective Senators and Congressmen - both Republicans and Democrats - as possible to support this effort to protect funding.  Encourage your friends and family members to also write.

I would be happy to facilitate those of you who share my concern in getting in touch with RESULTS volunteers in their Congressional districts, and to provide some background on the long relationship between RESULTS and UNICEF going back to the Jim Grant days.

You will have seen a touching column by Nick Kristof in today's New York Times, which says in part:

"….We have been better than this, and I think we still are. Republicans in Congress will have to search their consciences as they decide in coming days whether to back a rescission package that would slash foreign aid that they previously approved; they should note that there is still time for them to blame Musk for the aid shutdown and work with Rubio to limit the number of children dying unnecessarily.

"I know my readers will be asking how they can help, and one route is advocacy.

Groups like Results.org offer excellent resources for encouraging members of Congress to do the right thing…."

Nicholas Kristof

Thanks

Kul

  1. Thanks to our CT senators who have signed on. Our local interfaith and move on commitee’s are very active to get us involved in calling and writing to our representatives. It does pay for each of us to get involved as Kul recommends.
