Summary
Martin Griffiths, former UN humanitarian chief, has described Israel's actions in Gaza as "genocide" during an interview on Sky News' *The World*. Known for his measured diplomacy, Griffiths' use of the term signals a significant shift in international discourse. He emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that starvation is causing deaths and that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has been explicit about his objectives. This marks one of the most direct accusations from a high-ranking international figure regarding the conflict.

Quotes
• "I think now we've got to the point this is unequivocal. Of course it is genocide. Just as it is weaponising aid."
• "We all doubted whether famine is actually there. I think starvation is killing people. That's bad enough."
• "Also, genocide… of course that's what has happened. We only need to look at the statements made. Prime Minister Netanyahu has the virtue of being very clear about his objectives."

Comments

  1. Whatever we call it is useful , but more than that whatever we do about it is even more important. We are still not seeing countries sanctioning the perpetrators in any meaningful way. How many more children will be killed, maimed or starved before that happens? Fouad
