"30 Years Later" ... Part II (by Myra Rudin)

Editor's Note: This week we present Part II of the feature entitled 30 Years Later by Myra Rudin. This collection of photographs of contemporary New York City is no less fascinating than Part 1 and Myra once again takes us through an extraordinary journey in the second part of her feature tracing the changing cityscape of New York.

MIDTOWN & UPPER MANHATTAN

The last 30 years saw a huge development in super tall, many super thin, hi-rise apartment and office buildings, often constructed of glass and steel. Particularly striking is the new modern structure standing next to the old and worn.....

EAST SIDE PROMENADE

Located along the East River in midtown/uptown, the new esplanade gave New Yorkers (and interested tourists) new opportunities for walking, jogging and viewing an ever-changing landscape across the river in Long Island City. A new ferry service also began between points in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

LOWER MANHATTAN

The main development in lower Manhattan was undoubtedly the construction of One World Trade Center, built in the years following the 9/11 attack. With it came a surge in residential and commercial expansion, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, as well as a new transportation hub called “The Oculus”.

  4. Loved the one of the two Nuns; but why are they looking down, when most travelers would be looking UP at the skyscrapers? But you caught a rare moment !

    1. Yes Fouad, I noticed that (nuns looking down).... I'm sure it was for a brief moment. Perhaps an unusual fish was making an appearance?
