Every year , in February and March the tree lined avenues in Bangalore turn into a blaze of pink with blossoms of Tabebuia rosea. Often called the cherry blossoms of Bangalore , the parks and gardens are strewn like pink carpets and are a sight to behold.
The Spanish name roble de sabana, meaning "savannah oak", and is the national tree of El Salvador, where it is called "Maquilíshuat". The British brought the seeds from Mexico and planted them around lakes in Bangalore and it has become a popular tourist attraction and an icon of the garden city.

Awesome! So nice to see the blossoms of Tabebuia rosea in Bangalore. I hope that Bangalore will one day regain the title of garden city of India if due care is taken of its flora and fauna by not cutting down trees at the expense of concrete jungle.
ReplyDeleteSo true ! It has become a concrete jungle in some newer extensions- the gardens are not affected, so far! With pressure from the morning walkers smaller parks are being safeguarded zealously by such citizens.. The lakes are getting desisted and cleaned up through civic action. Sree
