International Women's Day - Poem by Sree Gururaja

It is March 8th again

Another International Women’s Day
What does that really mean?
Will I, my sisters and daughters
Be guaranteed a better life?
Nothing much happened since last year
For they  say it’s really  up to
us, my dears
To chin up and address our fears.

We’ve protested and negotiated for years
Each time holding back our tears
We returned to strategise and unite
Struggling to make few inroads
each time.

But that’s then and the past
Let’s hope the  young empowered with resolve and brave hearts
Will celebrate IWD not just on March 8th
But in their futures it will be everyday!!
Happy Women’s Day everyone!
Sree
