Report on the Conference of the International and Canadian Child Rights Partnership (ICCRP) - 8 to 11 July 2024 Durham, Canada : Victor Karunan
I attended this conference in my capacity as a member of the Inter-Generational Advisory Committee.
The ICCRP was formed in 2015 to focus attention on the interconnections between children’s rights to participation and protection. It seeks to develop new, innovative and research directions to examine how intergenerational relationships between adults and children can transcend current barriers to implementing children’s rights through intergenerational partnerships in research, policy and practice.
The ICCRP is supported in part from funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Ontario Research Fund in Canada. The network brings together children and adolescents from Scotland, Brazil, South Africa, Bolivia and Canada, child rights academics, researchers and experts and over 30 partner organisations representing universities, NGOs, human rights institutions and governments in Canada and in multiple countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. ICCRP has established 5 working groups on Ethics, Participatory Methodologies, Conceptual Interconnections and Policy, Data and Evaluation.
The ICCRP Conference held in Durham, Canada, from 8 to 11 July 2024 brought together over 65 participants (adults and children/adolescents) from the network across all regions. The Conference was conducted in an interactive and participatory manner with children and adolescents taking the lead in most of the sessions: Advocacy Workshop for Intergenerational Advisory Committee (adults and children); Definitions: Exploring Key Concepts in the ICCRP’s Work; Commonalities: What are the cross-cutting themes within the ICCRP?: Research Methods: How do we want to study what we do?; and Visioning the Future: What impact do we want out research to have?.
The interactive sessions led by children and young people included: Ethics Tree Activity; Showcasing our work: interactive gallery; etc.
