Penny

I saw the moving truck on the other side of the road across from our house. That house was on the market for about 4 weeks, and boom––sold! Just like that.

. . . While playing with Izara (4-year-old granddaughter) on our front lawn, I encountered a young woman with a pleasant smile passing by the adjacent sidewalk.

“Hello!” Izara is an unparallel force in making friends. I also waved.

“Oh, hello,” the woman responded trying to reign a big, white dog (possibly a German Shepherd- Alsatian cross breed). “I am Michelle. This is Penny. We are your new neighbors.”

“Michelle as like Obama?” We both laughed at my joke. By that time Penny was going crazy––began barking at us. Izara’s face was a mix of surprise-fear-disbelief-all at once. She took Penny’s rejection to heart.

Michelle was very apologetic.

. . . I have been over to her place with a welcome basket, met her husband and 5-month-old son. Penny, still remains formidable––but I am hopeful. One day . . .
