"..refugees are part of a toxic hoax economy. The fixers know well that these people will almost certainly die en masse in the desert or the ocean.."
"Matteo Garrone’s new film is part adventure story, part slavery drama; the slavery which did not in fact vanish with the end of the American civil war, but thrives in the globalised present day without needing to shapeshift too much, driven by the age-old forces of geopolitics and the market."

Powerful and important film. It has won several awards not only as best film, but also for cinematography, acting, etc. Io Capitano is being screened in schools in Italy and France as an advocacy tool to bring more understanding to the issues related to migration, especially of minors. It has also been shown at the European Parliament.
