The Regional Director in MENA, Adele Khodr, reported yesterday on Twitter about two UNICEF vehicles which were hit with live fire while waiting at the Wadi Gaza checkpoint.
Today we have learned more about the mission which involved a UNICEF child protection team working to reunite a family separated by fighting. The father, Saed Hassunah, was separated from his wife and six children became separated by fighting in March. His wife and eldest son were later killed by an airstrike in April.
Ever since their separation the father had been trying to reunite with the remaining children.
Despite both UNICEF vehicles being hit by fire at the checkpoint, the mission continued and succeeded in reuniting the father with his five children.
