Soliloquy of a Postage Stamp #106, International Year of the Child, 1979 : Fouad Kronfol

This week I revert to the philatelic materials issued by countries for the IYC by featuring countries starting with the letter M. This is a continuation of the previous week's feature as there were many countries to show.

From Mauritania we have this three stamp set of drawings showing a mother and three children, a mother with two children one of which is a new born baby and a boy and girl playing together. All three stamps have a large sun and the IYC emblem in the back.

This is the First Day Cover with the three stamps from Mauritania. The cachet is is a charmingly smiling boy with a head scarf. The two post marks are dated 2 October 1979 and were issued from Nouakchott, the capital.

These five stamps are from the island of Mauritius , four of which show a variety of activities related to children. The fifth stamp is the IYC emblem all by itself.

Here is the FDC with three of the above stamps from Mauritius. The cachet shows a young boy in a rectangular frame. The post mark is dated 11 October 1979 and was issued from Mauritius.

Another FDC from Mauriitus this has the other two stamps from the set issued for IYC. The cachet shows another young boy collecting clams by the beach. The post mark is dated 11 October 1979 and is issued from Mauritius.

From Mexico we have this airmail stamp for IYC which shows a drawing by five year old Adriana Blas Casas of three children, or is it dolls?

This five stamp set is from the Principality of Monaco. They show a series of drawings related to children and look like they were drawn by young children.

Here we have a seven stamp set from Mongolia.They depict doll-like children in different activities, together with the IYC emblem.

Also from Mongolia is another seven stamp set with doll-like children playing, dancing or singing.The IYC logo is in the corner of each stamp.

This First Day Cover is also from Mongolia and has two of the stamps from the set above. The cachet reproduces one of the stamps which shows two children on a horse one of whom is shooting a bow and arrow.

From the island of Montserrat, located in the Lesser Antilles of Eastern Caribbean, here is an expressive stamp issued for IYC. It shows a drawing of the hands of an adult reaching for a young child with the IYC emblem on the right. As in all British colonies the crown and initials of Queen Elizabeth II are in the upper part of the stamp.

This is the FDC with the same stamp as above issued by Montserrat for IYC. The cachet is simply the IYC logo and the name of the island. The post mark is dated 17 September 1979 and has the IYC logo, but there is no indication from where it was issued.

The Kingdom of Morocco issued this stamp for IYC. It is a colorful drawing of children holding hands around the globe in which is the IYC emblem and the year 1979.

The final item is the First Day Cover with the above stamp from Morocco. The cachet shows a smiling young boy wearing a traditional native "hoodie". The post mark is dated 3 December 1979 and was issued from Rabat.
