Tindy, My Furry Buddy by Paula Claycomb

How many of you have a dog or a cat? Or maybe a hamster or cockatoo or other animal friend? I cannot remember a time in my life when a dog was not part of the family. Currently, we have Tindy, a 3-1/2 year old mix of Greyhound, Affenpinscher, and Poodle. We know this only because the owner of her sister (coincidentally named Tilly) had a DNA test done.

Tindy came to us as a 6-week old pup on 17 July, 2020, shortly after the Covid 19 lockdown began. That was the day that C.T. Vivian, a minister and civil rights activist alongside M.L. King Jr, died. We took C.T.'s middle name, Tindell, and made it Tindy.

She and I sit together throughout the day, she on the lookout on our narrow road for any dog that might be strolling past. She also noisily greets all of my husband's voice students, who in turn scratch her belly and allow her to lead them into his studio.

Tindy does the same things every day -- you know, crunching her dry food two kibbles at a time and then leaving a string of them on the floor, or chasing in vain the aggressive magpies). And every single day, we laugh at her antics. She keeps us happy during this unsettling period of Earth's history.

Tell us, who is your companion and how does she or he make you happy?

I was amazed and inspired by the energy of the hamster which never seemed to get tired running up and down the ladder, or by the old dog which struggled to get up,, but insisted on walking. We have conversations with them and they are able to communicate. If they only could speak...
