UNICEF history buffs like me will be particularly pleased to read: - Dhirendra Asthana's article relating his discussions with M.N.A. Iyer. Iyer joined UNICEF India in 1958 and told Asthana of how he and other staff worked in tents due to a lack of office space, even though there were at the time only about 20 staff in all. Iyer recalled many national colleagues, along with several of UNICEF's earliest international staff including Glan Davies, Paul Larsen, Alan McBain, and Gerry Medina. - Sumita Ganguly, Dhirendra Asthana, Maggie Chand, G.K. Kundu and Preeti Jha on their fond memories of Dr. Sindhu Phadke, who mentored and led many staff. Dr. Sindhu is now 96 and joined UNICEF in 1968. - Suman Bhatinagar on the Guinea Worm Eradication Project. This one was of particular interest for me, as I had worked in Rajasthan in 1967 / 1968 on guinea worm eradication. So it was not a surprise for me to read that Rajasthan was the last bastion of guinea worm and all the more pleasing to see that both the state and India as a whole were declared free of this terrible parasite in 2000.
