I'm apalled that the UN chooses to highlight selective issues. Or are we hiding our heads in shame through silence. This is gross violation against Israeli women, speak up and condemn!
Dec 6, 2023
The silence of UN Women in the face of these unspeakable atrocities is unacceptable and a stain on the UN. The SG finally recognised and condemned these horrific acts against innocent women only after the world was presented with a mountain of graphic evidence. Shame on the UN for its obvious double standards with regards to innocent victims.

Fouad,
Your ode to Elder
Is most apt and deserving
On the 11th of December
Let's be proud of James Elder
And take a moment to remember
The children left asunder
As we bless our colleagues for the
committed services they render
Sree
and services in Palestine they render.

Here, here, Jim Elders makes all of us XUNICEFers truly proud as his principled reporting from ground zero, death zone of children, is in the best tradition of UNICEF. Bless you!

UNICEF SPOKESMAN DOESNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT UNICEF ACTIONS TO ALLEVIATE SUFFERING. ASSUME THAT MEANS UNICEF IS NOT DOING VERY MUCH THAT CAN BE QUANTIFIED

I am very happy and moved to see this tribute to Michael Shower. He was an amazing human being and a pleasure to deal with. He always gave me good advice. And in addition to AIDS Day, he also initiated the special 25th anniversary performance of the controversial rock-musical "Haïr" at the General Assembly. Michael was a wonderful colleague.

Yes, beautifully captured! Been to Napoli many years ago and yes, the small alleys, the life on the street, a mix of realism and surrealism. Thank you!

Very Powerful. It is terrible when Dreams are shattered and the future for children and adolescents is purposely destroyed in cold blood.

Ramesh very meticulous and holistic statement you made, as old saying goes easier said than done vis-a-vis never too late to take following imperative action by UN.
1. Be pragmatic action rather than plethora statement produced.
2. Review entrenched neutrality standing of UN rather than take righteous stance.
3. Not only word but also action on cost effective and efficient UN system.
4. Expedite the rounding up of over due UN reform process.
5. SC veto power should be revoked immediately replaced by majority voting power.
6. Please note that UN can not please everybody, if try to please everyone will please no body and loss of credibility.

Thank you, Gianni for the wonderful tour of beautiful Naples through your awesome photography. Now I feel, I don't have to visit Naples. One place less in my bucket list. All the best! 🙏

Each time I see Jim Elder reporting on Instagram from Gaza hospitals on masses number of injured or dead children, I am very proud of him, I pray for his safety at the same time my heart breaks to pieces. War does not
respect humanity, it does not care who is hurting, small humans, big humans old humans, male humans or female humans. War machinery injurs and kills indescriminately. But war machinery is made by men. Control of injuries, death and destruction is in the hands of men not in the hands of machines. I regret that humans have become so paralized to make logical thinking. 😪

I appreciated Fouad’s summary last week of UNICEF’s engagement in the dreadful situation of children in Gaza. It came shortly after the staff’s strong negative commentary and petition about the ED’s public statements. Many staff members and retirees sympathised and/ or endorsed the staff’s comments, others were not in agreement or felt the statements should not have been so forthright. Either way, they seem to have had an effect for, since the staff comments, UNICEF’s statements have been clear and uncompromising about children and their rights while remaining firmly inside the confines of international humanitarian law and its principles – by which UNICEF is bound. Of course, I don’t know what happened in the conversations that followed the commentary and the ED’s response, but I do know that all the children affected by the conflict once again have a committed advocate in the shape of UNICEF. And I am reassured that UNICEF is fulfilling the mandate given to it by the UNCRC.
I don’t know how the contretemps developed but I do know that many staff and retirees were feeling dismayed by UNICEF’s invisibility in the international media – while not doubting the presence of the courageous staff on the ground. While knowledge of humanitarian law and even its principles is still too scarce in the organisation, there are international humanitarian lawyers on staff, many others with extensive experience of the law and principles in practice, and, of course, many skilled communicators – James Elder being to the fore now. Together, I believe they could show UNICEF how it can be as courageous on the global stage as staff are on the ground while respecting international humanitarian and human rights law. Anyone who works in UNICEF should feel able to speak out clearly and uncompromisingly for children and their rights and we should support them to do that.
